Though Pennyrile Electric’s 83rd annual membership meeting scheduled for today was canceled out of COVID-19 concerns for public health and restrictions of public events, the cooperative is providing important updates typically shared at the annual meeting.

Pennyrile Electric announced James L. Futrell (Cumberland District), Bryson Price (Eastern District) and Duane E. Moore (Western District) have each been re-elected to another three-year term.

President & CEO Alan Gates says the cooperative has implemented preventative measures to ensure a healthy workforce and uninterrupted service to members. ”As a cooperative, we are following the CDC guidelines to make sure our members and employees remain healthy,” he said.

“There will not be any increase in rates to our members this year,” Gates added, explaining that in  the past several years, Pennyrile Electric has adjusted rates to accommodate increases in TVA wholesale power costs, but there will be no rate changes in 2020.

Pennyrile Electric is pleased to award scholarships to twelve graduating high school seniors. Recipients for 2020 are: Belle Englebright, Hayden Cunningham, Shelby Brown, Janae Bracey, Lantana Hight, Paige Jenkins, Margaret Gillum, Sarah Glover, Tanner McCuiston, Caroline Davenport, Autumn Hope and Haley Hallman.

The Washington Youth Tour, which annually sends a Pennyrile Electric delegation of high school juniors to the nation’s capital was canceled this year. The cooperative instead has awarded each student selected for the program with a $1,000.00 scholarship toward their first semester of college.  The students are: Briley Mitchell & Parker Smith (Trigg County High School), Averie Turner & James Kinney (Hopkinsville High School), Emily Hancock (University Heights Academy), Luke Bottoms (Heritage Christian Academy), Skyler McKinney & Baylee Klees (Todd County Central High School), and Preston Hurt & Mallory Whitson (Logan County High School).

With the uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic, we know that the people we serve are facing many concerns. Guided by cooperative values, Pennyrile Electric is dedicated to doing what we can to fulfill our civic duty and live up to the trust that our members place in us to bring them safe, affordable and reliable power.

As a cooperative, we have a responsibility to do what is in the best interest of all of our members. Here are several measures as of March 17, 2020:

• Our service and field personnel will be employing “social distancing.” Our goal is to decrease the likelihood of illness and resulting work disruptions so that we can continue to provide our members continuity of service.
• Pennyrile Electric is prepared to forgo the disconnecting of service to members for non-payment or low funds for a limited time. While this is not normal procedure, we are sensitive to the well-being of all our members. Though disconnects may not occur, it remains the responsibility of each account holder to pay as they can, which will help avoid a larger balance in the future. Bills, late notices, and disconnect notices will continue to be sent as usual. We encourage any member who is facing financial difficulty during this time to call us.
